Coastal Living

Boiling Spring Lakes, Bald Head Island and the surrounding areas have become very popular places for people looking for quaint, small town coastal living with easy access to a larger city. Situated between Myrtle Beach to the south and Wilmington to the north, each about 40 minutes away, the greater Southport and Oak Island area provides a great place to call home. Our beaches are second to none, fishing is great in the Intercoastal Waterway, inland lakes, rivers and tributaries as well as the open ocean. There is plenty to do here to make Southport and Oak Island the ideal vacation destination as well as the perfect place to settle down.

Southport is rich in history and maintains the prototypical home town feel even during the busiest months of the year… summer. We are home to the OFFICIAL North Carolina 4th of July Festival and celebration, featuring a great parade, wonderful entertainment, and of course, a dazzling display of fireworks and pyrotechnics. We are a proud town and welcome new homeowners to become members of the various clubs, associations and social organizations that are abundant.

What is also abundant is the fact that Southport has been featured in many state, regional and national magazines and website touting what we already know, Southport and Oak Island are the perfect place to hang your hat, put out your shingle and be at home for decades to come.

Oak Island

Oak Island is a magnificent area boasting miles of beautiful white sand on one side and the Intercoastal Waterway on the other. It is home to thousands of turtle hatchlings finding their way to the ocean and also home to many who are looking for a quiet, peaceful life that is not too far removed from the city life that can be found in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Our town, also called OKI, boasts 65 public beach accesses on miles of sandy beaches, as well as fishing docks and piers, boat ramps and many other access points to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Davis Canal, making it the perfect location for fishing, boating, kayaking and other water activities. The Town also has a municipal golf course and eight parks, ranging from a fishing T at the west end of the island to a large park on the mainland complete with baseball and football fields.

There is a skate park, a dog park, a cabana on the oceanfront with an observation deck and plenty of places to find a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the view. Area businesses, like piers and marinas, restaurants and ice cream shops, also help make vacationers feel welcome while catering to full-time residents.

Boiling Spring Lakes

Boiling Spring Lakes is a great up-and-coming section that has plenty of available home sites for new construction and many beautiful homes that are ready to move into. BSL, as it is known to “locals” has several large lakes with beautiful homes surrounding, as well as some that are just off lake or have water views. Boiling Spring Lakes derives its name from the boiling spring that flows with an incredibly pure stream of water. The city’s centerpiece, the 275-acre “Big Lake”, is just one of more than 50 natural and man-made lakes in the city. The “Big Lake” is fed by five springs and Allen’s Creek, and is 2-1/2 miles long with 10 miles of shoreline.
